Switching Between Windows in Windows 7 and Mac OSX

line Switching Between Windows in Windows 7 and Mac OSX

There is often this craze about Mac and OSX in Singapore, largely by a bunch of badly informed people.
With the release of Windows 7, is OSX really that good?

Lets look at one of the most common task you do when using the computer. Switching between windows.

Mac OSX users claimed that the expose is really easy to use. Yes, but that is only true if you are under-utilizing the thousands you paid for your Mac computer and running only one or 2 programs. Seriously, you should get a pocket calculator instead.

If you are a real power user, making full use of what your computer has to offer to you, your expose would look like this.

This is OMGWTF. With Mac OSX and having this amount of windows open, expose is totally unusable. Its a test of eyesight.
But this is a normal amount of windows I keep open all the time! And real power users have even more windows open.
Yes, yes, there is Spaces that allows you to do virtual desktop thingy. Virtual desktop apps has been available for Windows since more than 10 years ago. But its completely useless. Why? Because you have to manually arrange and manage all your desktops, and any amount of time spent doing that is time wasted from productivity.

Now lets look at how we switch between windows (the same amount of windows are opened as the previous screenshot) in Windows 7.

Whee..

This new taskbar is ingenious.

  1. Actually..The only use for Expose is the one that moves all the windows to the sides. This is Mac’s version of Show Desktop..which is fucking useless.. cos u can either hide all windows, or show all, not like Windows u can hide all and one by one take them out later on.

Actually…Expose existed becos the Dock is useless. Instead of keeping track of opened apps in the dock, its mixed with shortcuts and Stacks, making it hard to tell which are the opened application, and thus u need Expose to lay all of them out and then choose.

Not to mention the Dock is a total waste of screen space, and Best View is usless.

in windows 7, shake whichever window u are holding on to to make all the other windows fall away.

  3. I share the same feeling as you. Being a Windows user from the start, I find it very hard to switch to a Mac especially in the area of window switching. With Windows 7, its even harder imho.

Heres a review of my experiences at http://igeeksfaq.blogspot.com/2010/08/improve-your-mac-experience-with-useful.html

We have had taskbar thumbnails on kubuntu for ages.

And our alt-tab looks way better.

Though the taskbar grouping in Windows is nicer now.

Then again, we still have Wobbly Windows!
